Sometimes miracles can happen. I finally got around to recording my second ever podcast. This time I used Ubercaster and did it in one hit, rather than pasting all the bits together in Garageband. Have to say I found the whole process very easy and I’m very pleased with the results. So much so I want to record another one.

The show can be found at http://notfrombrighton.btpodshow.com or you can directly download it from here.

Here are the shownotes:

Not From Brighton - November 15, 2006

Thanks to Adam Curry of the Daily Source Code for turning me on to Lies, Spin, Truth (aka 45 minutes) by British artist Quantum Soul.

It’s a superbly put together track which may remind some of you of Paul Hardcastle’s Nineteen.

You can find more of Quantum Soul’s work on the Podsafe Music Network and their MySpace page.

Enjoy!

This is by far my most favourite shot from the day. For a grab shot it’s not a bad portrait. The rest of the day’s pictures can be found here.

Show number 1 is in the bag! Finally got off my fat british bum and put the show together. It’s rough around the edges but it’s my first attempt and overall I’m actually quite pleased with how it came out. Have to admit that I wimped out and rather than recording it in one take, I recorded the talkie bits separately and then put the show together in Garageband, which made life a whole lot easier. Once I get a bit more confidence and better in my delivery I may well go the one take route, but for now, Garageband is my friend.

Full shownotes, direct download and subscription RSS to follow, once I have the finished mp3 file.

Excuse me whilst I go and have a celebratory cup of tea.

You may have noticed that comments are disabled on this blog. There are two reasons for this:

1) I currently don’t have time to deal with the inevitable comment spam that would occur, even with the superb features Wordpress includes. So, no comments for now.

2) Responding to and staying on top of comments is quite a time consuming task, especially when you have to use a separate interface.

In light of this, I am going to add a link at the bottom of each post asking for comments by email. Alternatively, post a comment on your own blog, let me know the url and I’ll add it to the post.

One of my al time favourite cameras has been the Ricoh GR1v. Some of the shots I’ve taken with ours can be found here.

I’ve only stopped using it because I found the phaff of film compared to digital too much.

For a while I’ve been wishing for a digital replacement. The Samsung A402 I have kind of filled the gap but really wasn’t a substitute.

Well Ricoh have announced the GR Digital! I so want one. At £400 I’m going to have to wait a while but it’s definitely on the wish list.

It does have an extending / retracting lens, though it is fixed focal length equal to the GR1v’s 28mm, so start-up might be an issue, but it looks identical and seems to have retained all the features of it’s film counterpart that I loved so much.

Squeeee!

Welcome to the Not From Brighton Productions weblog.

Why Not From Brighton? Well it all started with a crazy idea to do podcasts live from Brighton beach. Not too crazy an idea in the summer, though crowd numbers could have made life interesting, but not so much fun when the weather turns nasty. Fine if you live in Brighton as it would be easy to reschedule, but not, if like me, you live a little distance away and don’t find out how bad the weather is until you’ve reached the beach. So instead of the Live from Brighton podcast, it became the Not From Brighton podcast. Or rather, it will be when I get around to recording the first one.

As well as being the home of the podcast, this weblog will feature some of my photography work as well as random entries on subjects I want to get off my chest. Some of those may even appear as audio blog entries when the mood takes me.

So welcome to my world and please, do check back often.

- Neil.
